Names and Meanings

I’m holding a scrap of paper. Various names and combinations of names are scrawled across it in blue ink. Like any girl, I have spent time connoting concocting names for the children I hope someday to call my own. Who says my future husband will like these? I don’t know. But for now, I’m going to record these before I loose this scrap of paper. I say, it will be delightful to look back on someday.

katies-stuff-001re.JPGPeter Blake — Peter means Rock and Blake means black or pale. No significant meaning attached here really.

Ethan Miles — Ethan is ’solid, enduring’ and Miles is ’soldier.’ Enduring Soldier.

Talitha Cumi — I came across this while reading in Mark a few weeks ago. These are Jesus’ words as he spoke ‘Little girl, arise’ to the young maid. I’ve since seen this used as a name, indeed John Piper’s daughter’s name is Talitha.

Cosette. I’ve thought this name beautiful for a long while. However, I can’t find a meaning to it. Thinking I like it as a middle name, though the duo “Cosette Ava” as a first and middle name sounds appealing.

Jacob Goforth — Not sure what Jacob means, and Goforth is a given.

Katherine, Heidi, Clara, Titus, Jane, Justice, Louisa, Charlotte, Samuel, Ellison, and Andrea are the rest of the names scribbled down before me. Katherine (with a K, mind you!) is definitely a favourite. :)

Girls, what do you think of my names? What are some of your favorite names, meanings, and combinations? What does your name mean? Katie is ‘pure’ and Marie is ‘bitter’. Hmm. :) I’m not sure what ‘Ktsia’ is– I’ll get back to you on that.

Well my name, Kaci, means “brave”.

Some of my favorites for girls are: Elizabeth, Rose, Megan or Meg, Katherine, Klara, Renae, Jane, Theresa, Danielle, Katrina, and Rebekah.

For boys: Benjamin, David, Joseph, Erik, Blake, Kaleb, Joshua, and Luke.

Some combos I like are Elizabeth Rose, Klara Marie, Theresa Renae, and Kaleb Luke, Benjamin David, as well as many others.

I like Cosette; it’s pretty and unique. I also like Marie for a middle name, but so many people use it. :-)

Jenna means ‘Fair Lady’ and Christine comes from Christian which is a family name.
I love the name ‘Grace’, I’m still trying to think of a middle name.

Kaci: I didn’t know your name meant brave! I like ‘Meg’ also.

Not a girl: haha! thanks for the link, Isaac.

Kristin: I seem to end up liking the old fashioned names also. I haven’t heard of ‘Spencer’ for a while, but I think I’m liking it.

I like some of your names - especially Cosette because it’s French (at least I think it is) ;) My name, Kristin, is the feminine version of “Christian” and means “follower of Christ.

As a history buff, I love names that run in the family or that are a part of my heritage (mostly English/German). So…most of my picks probably seem old fashioned and uncommon today!

My favorites for girls are: Katherine, Elizabeth, Alice, Alexandra, Anna, Victoria, Anne, Irene, as well as Helen, Hannah and Olivia.

For boys: Charles, William, Benjamin, David, Spencer, Daniel, Joshua, Austin, Alexander, Nicholas & Stephen!

What my future spouse thinks remains to be seen :) I am definitely open to other suggestions when the time comes ;)

My name, like yours, means “pure”. My middle name, Lori, means “Of Lothair”. Totally unromantic considering it’s French. :)

My favourite names for girls would include: Noel, Ruth, Victoria, Nora, Emily, Isabel and Mae.

For boys: Nicholas, Douglas, Gregory, Joel, Luke, and others I can’t seem to think of right now.

Anna means grace and Kristine also means Christian.

I always seem to think of more names for girls than boys. For girls, I like Jocelyn, Elise, Isabel, Hope, Felicity, Eliza
Corinna/Corinne, Adrienne, Bree, Kate, Emily, Molly, Cora/Cori, and Ella.

For boys, I only have three right now: Curtis, Chandler, Charlie. That’d be funny for triplets. :)

This was a fun post!

My name means “Gracious one” and my middle name, Ruth, means “commpassionate.”

I am a big name person, I had 18 names picked out at one point. :-)

Girl Names: Rosanna Marie, Joanna Peace, Rosalie, Carla, Heather, Heidi Faith, Leanna, Kaitlin Abigail, Rebecca, Esther, Emily etc…

Boy Names: Jonathan David, Josiah, Michael, Luke, Caleb, Nathaniel, Andrew, Daniel…etc.

I enjoyed looking at all the different names…some of them are really cute!

Oh and Katie, out of all your names I like Peter Blake the best.

Those all sound terrific, Katie. :) At first I was puzzled by Talitha Cumi, but once I thought about it, I really like it!

“Veronika” means “True-hearted one”. :) Personally, I’m thrilled by this, because it’s a constant reminder of how God has called us to be towards each other. Plus I think it’s a bit like me anyway, or at least, how I try to be.

I’ve always liked the name Jarod, Joshua, Henry, Nathan, Justin, Luke, etc. for boys’ names.

Girls…I’m not so sure. Kelly and Beth are nice, as well as Anne (with an E!) and Katharine, of course (the K is a must. :D ).

Oh, and by the way, Titus is a really neat name as well. A couple in my church named their youngest Titus, and it fits him beuatifully! :D

:-) All those names are lovely….
Heidi means noble.

Kaitlin and Anna: I love the name Isabel too!

Melinda: good to see you here. :)

Loved hearing all the names you like, girls!

Was that Clara with a C??? I was also surprised to see that Camp hadn’t made it on your list, Kates! What’s up with that?

I think you know most of mine, but I have a few new ones!

Boys: Isaiah (Yahweh is my salvation) Daniel (God is my judge), Jeremiah (Yahweh is uplifted) David (beloved), Eli (ascension) Judah (praise), Uriah (Yahweh is my light) James (supplanter). I also like Nathan.

Girls: Esther (star) Rose, Selah (pause to reflect) ____, Jael (ascend)____, Hadasssah (myrtle tree, victory) ____.

As you can tell, I haven’t finished naming my unborn children yet, but that is definitely alright!

Rachel Marie: Little lamb, bitterness.
